Security Compliance Checks Overview

In order to ensure the security of your company data, your company can configure Security Compliance Checks that your device must pass in order to use Venn.

What are Computer Compliance Checks?

When you sign in, Venn checks your device to ensure it is compliant before you can gain access to your work.

Your company can configure Required and Recommended Compliance Checks.

  • Required Compliance Checks: Your company requires that you put these security best practices in place. Depending on your company settings, you may not be able to run Venn on your computer if it does not pass these compliance checks.
  • Recommended Compliance Checks: Your company recommends that you put these security best practices in place, but you will still be able to run Venn on your computer if they are not in place.

View Computer Compliance Status

You can view your computer's compliance status at any time on the Compliance Status page in Workplace.

Computer Compliance Checks

You must resolve any failed required security checks in order to comply with your company’s security requirements on your computer.

The table below provides details about each compliance check available for Windows and Mac in Venn. If your device fails any of these checks, follow the steps in the remediation instructions and see if your device will pass the check again. If the steps don't resolve the issue, please reach out to your support team for help troubleshooting the issue.

This table includes all available computer security compliance checks in Venn. Your company may not have implemented all of the checks below.
Compliance Check Check Description Remediation Instructions for Users
Antivirus installed Requires the installation of antivirus software to protect devices against malware. Failed Compliance Check: No antivirus installed
Antivirus definitions Requires antivirus software to be updated with the latest threat detection definitions in order to protect against known threats. Your Company Manager will set the number of days within which Antivirus threat detection definitions must have been updated. Failed Compliance Check: Antivirus signatures are out of date
Antivirus real-time protection enabled Requires antivirus software to be actively protecting devices at all times. Failed Compliance Check: Antivirus real-time protection disabled
Antivirus threat status Requires that the installed antivirus software is not reporting an unresolved threat on a device. Failed Compliance Check: Virus detected
Encryption Requires that all drives on your computer (including external drives) are encrypted in order to prevent access to sensitive data in the event a device is lost or stolen. Failed Compliance Check: Hard drive encryption disabled
Firewall Requires the use of a personal firewall on devices to help prevent unauthorized external access. Failed Compliance Check: Firewall disabled
Known devices Requires devices to be marked as "known" in your company's admin settings, meaning that the device is approved for work use. Failed Compliance Check: Device not marked as known
Login password Requires a device to have a login password set to protect against unauthorized access. Failed Compliance Check: Login does not require password
Operating system auto-update Requires operating systems to be set to update automatically. This helps ensure the latest operating system updates and security patches are applied, keeping the device secure. Your Company Manager will set the number of days within which the Operating System must have been updated.  Failed Compliance Check: Operating system auto-update disabled
Operating system supported Requires all devices to be running on a supported operating system. This ensures that only operating systems still eligible for updates and security patches from the vendor are used. Failed Compliance Check: Operating system is not supported
Screen saver enabled (Mac only)  Requires that a screen saver be set on the device to protect sensitive data when the device is not actively being used. Failed Compliance Check: Screensaver disabled, lock disabled, or timeout not acceptable
Screen saver lock (Windows only) Requires a password to resume working after the screen saver has engaged to protect devices from physical access. 
Screen saver timeout Requires the screen saver to engage when a device is not actively being used. Your Company Manager will set the number of minutes of inactivity before the screen saver must be activated. 
Unauthorized applications Specifies applications that should not be installed on devices. Failed Compliance Check: Unauthorized applications
Required applications Specifies applications that should be installed on devices. Failed Compliance Check: Required Applications
RMM check
(Windows only)
Specifies RMM software that should be installed on devices. Failed Compliance Check: RMM Check

What are Mobile Compliance Checks?

When you sign in, Venn checks your mobile device to ensure it is compliant before you can gain access to your work.

Mobile Compliance Checks

Passcode set Requires that users set a passcode on their mobile devices.  - Mobile Compliance Check: Passcode Set on Android

Encrypted (Android Only)

Requires Android users to encrypt their device.

Note: On iOS devices, setting a passcode will also encrypt the device.

Genuine Android OS / iOS Requires that a genuine Android OS or iOS is installed as the Mobile Operating System, ensuring that it hasn’t been jailbroken or rooted.  - Mobile Compliance Check: Genuine Android OS
- Mobile Compliance Check: Genuine iOS
Mobile device marked as known Requires devices to be marked as "known" in your company's admin settings, meaning that the device is approved for work use. Mobile Compliance Check: Mobile Device Marked as Known
Operating system supported Requires that the mobile device is running on a supported operating system. Mobile Compliance Check: Operating System Supported
