When you install Blue Border on your Mac, you will set Workplace Web Launcher as your default browser. Workplace Web Launcher also registers as the default "Open With" app (file handler) for many common file types. These settings ensures that when you click a link or open a file from within Blue Border, it opens in a Blue Border window, keeping your work activity inside your secure workspace.
Where You Will See "Workplace Web Launcher"
You'll see "Workplace Web Launcher" as your default web browser in your Mac's System Settings.
You will also see "Workplace Web Launcher" when you right-click most files and select Open With—both inside and outside of Blue Border.
What This Means for You
This setting ensure that when you click a link or file from within Blue Border, it opens in a Blue Border window, keeping your work activity inside your secure workspace.
It does not mean that:
- Venn has access to your personal files
- Your personal files will open inside Blue Border
- Your personal browsing is monitored or affected in any way
Default Apps
Because Workplace Web Launcher is set as the default "Open With" app (file handler) for most file types, you won't be able to change the default app used to open most files while Blue Border is installed. If you attempt to change the default, it will be switched back to Workplace Web Launcher.
Files will continue to open in an appropriate app—this setting simply makes sure that work-related links stay within your secure Blue Border environment.
Should you wish to choose which app a file opens in, you can right click the file and choose which app you'd like to use under Open With.
Default Browser
You will set Workplace Web Launcher as your default web browser in your Mac System Settings when you first install Blue Border. This ensures that links you click in Blue Border open in Blue Border and that links you click outside Blue Border open outside.

Blue Border will make sure that your default browser in Mac System Settings is set to Workplace Web Launcher in order to preserve this expected behavior.

After you first install Blue Border, you will be prompted to set Workplace Web Launcher as your default browser in your Mac System Settings as part of the Mac Permissions Guide.

Each time Blue Border starts up, it checks to see what your default browser is in your Mac System Settings. If it is set as something other than Workplace Web Launcher, the following happens:
The selected browser will be automatically updated as the user’s default for outside Blue Border.
The default browser in Mac System Settings will automatically be changed back to Workplace Web Launcher.

If you change your default browser in your Mac System Settings while you're logged in to Blue Border, you will see a popup prompting you to reset Workplace Web Launcher as your default browser. If you click “Set as default browser,” the following happens:
The browser you selected in Mac System Settings will be automatically updated as your default for outside Blue Border in your Blue Border Settings.
The default browser in Mac System Settings will automatically be changed back to Workplace Web Launcher.
