Once you start working in Venn’s Blue Border™ on your device, your company has the ability to remotely wipe work data from your device. This article explains when and why this might happen, what data is affected, and—most importantly—how your personal files and apps remain completely safe throughout this process.
Learn how to remotely wipe Blue Border data here.
When Remote Wipe is Used
Once you start working in Blue Border on your device, your company can remotely remove work data from your device. This is most common in situations such as:
- When you leave the company: Companies remotely wipe work data as part of the standard offboarding process to ensure company data is properly removed.
- If your account may be compromised: If there is evidence of a threat to your device or Blue Border account or if your device is lost or stolen, your company may remotely wipe your work data to immediately disable access and protect company information.
Once your Company Manager initiates a remote wipe, the process happens automatically in the background. You don't need to be logged in to your computer for this to occur.
What Gets Removed
When your company remotely wipes work data from your device, the following will be deleted:
- Files saved directly to Venn Disk: Any work files you saved to this temporary storage location
- App profiles and configurations: Settings and preferences for work apps used in Blue Border
- Cached data: Temporary files created by work applications
- Stored credentials: Saved passwords and login information for work accounts
What Doesn't Get Removed
Personal Data
Venn does not monitor, track, access, or record any of your personal data or activities, including private personal information, browsing activities, and personal files. Remote wipe only affects work-related data inside Blue Border.
Your personal files, photos, videos, and applications remain completely untouched. This process only removes work data from the Secure Enclave where Blue Border operates—they are completely isolated from work applications, almost as though they were running on separate computers.
Work Files Backed Up to the Cloud
Your work files that are backed up to cloud storage services remain completely safe and accessible. Remote wipe only removes the local copies and cached data on your computer—the files themselves stay in the cloud.
Files stored in cloud storage locations like OneDrive, Google Drive, Workplace Drive, Box, and Dropbox are not affected by remote wipe.
Once you sign back in to these services, your files will sync back to your computer automatically. You may notice that it takes a few moments for all your files to download again, depending on how much data you have stored.
Cloud Application Data
Cloud-based applications (also called web applications or SaaS tools) store your data on their servers, not on your computer. Remote wipe does not affect any data stored in these cloud applications—it only removes local cached information and saved login credentials.
Your data in cloud applications remains completely accessible after a remote wipe, including:
- Email: All messages, contacts, and calendar events in Gmail, Outlook, or other email services
- Collaboration tools: Documents, conversations, and project data in tools like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, or Microsoft Teams
- Business applications: Customer records, sales data, and other information in tools like Salesforce, HubSpot, or other CRM systems
If you sign back in to these applications after a remote wipe, all your data will be exactly as you left it. You may need to re-enter your password and complete any multifactor authentication steps, but your work data in these applications is not affected.
