Release Highlight (Coming Soon) October 5, 2026: Configure Automatic App Installation with Managed Installers for Mac

Coming Soon Automatic app installation with managed installers on Mac will be available for Blue Border customers on October 5, 2026 the coming weeks.

In the past, configuring automatic app installation on Mac meant uploading and maintaining your own installer file for every app — and keeping it current as new versions ship.

What's New

Company Managers can now set up automatic installation on Mac using managed installers from the Homebrew cask catalog — the same way you can set up automatic installation on Windows using managed installers from Winget. Instead of uploading and maintaining an installer file yourself, you provide a Homebrew cask token once, and Venn keeps the installer current for you.

Get Started

Once released, the Homebrew cask token automatic installation option will appear on the Installation tab of each App Details panel in the Admin Portal. We recommend setting up automatic installation for all of your apps once it's available.

Availability

The option to set up automatic installation using managed installers is available for all Blue Border customers. The new Homebrew cask token option applies to users on Mac, and the existing Winget package ID option applies to users on Windows.

Known Limitations

  • Some cask-installed apps may show their own post-install prompt (for example, Microsoft AutoUpdate after installing Edge) until we finish suppressing extra install screens.
  • If your network blocks egress to Venn's cask-mirror domain (or, as a fallback, *.brew.sh), installs will fail until that's allowlisted.

FAQ

What's changing?

Company Managers can now set up automatic installation on Mac using managed installers from the Homebrew cask catalog, the same way Winget already works for Windows apps.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes — this isn't automatic. Company Managers need to add a Homebrew cask token on each app's Installation tab to enable it.

What is Homebrew?

Homebrew is a widely used, open-source package manager that macOS relies on to distribute and verify trusted third-party applications.

What will my users see?

Once you've enabled it for an app, users are prompted to install the app automatically when they go to launch it if the app isn't installed on their device. They'll see this prompt.
