Release Highlight August 20, 2026: Claude Desktop App Is Now Supported in Blue Border

Available Now Claude Desktop was officially supported inside Blue Border as of August 20, 2026. Official support for the ChatGPT and Codex desktop apps is expected in the coming months.

The Claude desktop app is now supported inside Blue Border, so you and your team can now use Claude Chat, Cowork, and Code inside your secure workspace.

What's New

The Claude desktop app is now available with the full protection of Blue Border, keeping every draft, file, and session protected. 

  • Internet traffic: Internet traffic from the Claude desktop app in Blue Border is routed via your company's Private Company Gateway. 
  • Application data: Drafts and temporary files that Claude Cowork and Code write on the user's device as they work are stored securely on the Venn Disk.
  • Files: Final outputs can be easily saved to your chosen cloud storage solution.
Claude Code works inside Blue Border and can be used for common workflows like running python scripts. However, dedicated software development workflows like using Docker Desktop and other containerized development tools aren't officially supported. Reach out to your customer success manager if you're interested in running Claude Code outside Blue Border for developer workflows with PCG support to secure your internet traffic.

Company Managers can add the Claude desktop app like any other application: add it to your app catalog and assign it to the users who need it.

Availability

Claude Desktop is supported on Windows 11 and macOS macOS Sonoma (14), Sequoia (15), Tahoe (26), and Golden Gate (27).

Known Limitations

Previous versions of Windows or macOS, the Claude terminal application, and software development use cases of Claude remain unsupported for now. Some of these may partially work, but you may run into edge cases beyond the known limitations listed below.

Our team is working to resolve the following issues:

Windows

  • "Failure to set VHDX path" errors from the September 8, 2026 Windows update may affect Cowork's VM-backed features.
  • After a Workplace update, Claude (and some other apps) may briefly stop showing as installed. Signing out of Workplace and back in resolves it.
  • Computer use is not supported.
  • The Claude Agent plugin for PyCharm fails to install.
  • Cowork's VM-backed features may fail if Claude updates while Blue Border is open.
  • The Relaunch button after a Claude update occasionally opens Claude outside Blue Border.
  • Claude may close on its own after 30–60 minutes of inactivity.
  • New messages may take up to 1.5 hours to appear in Claude's chat search.
  • Quitting Claude from the tray icon may not fully close it, and relaunching can start a second, unauthorized instance.
  • The Claude launcher icon may briefly disappear after an update.
  • Claude may not launch the very first time you open it after installing.
  • Claude may use more processor power than usual while sitting idle, which can slow your device.
  • If you installed Claude from the Microsoft Store, in-app updates may get stuck on "Downloading update…" inside Blue Border.

macOS

  • The Atlassian connector in Cowork disconnects several times a day, and you need to reconnect it.
  • You may be signed out of Claude after your Mac wakes from sleep.
  • After you update Claude inside Blue Border, Claude may reopen outside Blue Border.
  • Creating an artifact in Cowork may fail. As a workaround, change your Cowork files location in Settings > Cowork to a folder in your company's cloud storage (OneDrive or Google Drive) or on Venn Disk.
  • Creating a new Cowork scheduled task may fail with a permissions error. Existing scheduled tasks continue to run normally. The same Cowork files location workaround as above resolves it.
  • When Tenant Restrictions are set to a specific organization, Claude may still allow sign-in with a personal account.
  • Occasionally Claude on Mac may open without the Blue Border frame and badge showing.

FAQ

Can I use Claude for software development inside Blue Border?

Not officially yet. The Code tab will run, but dedicated development workflows aren't supported.

Will Claude's "computer use" feature work in Blue Border?

Not yet — this is a known limitation, and the feature won't currently work inside Blue Border.

I’ve already been using Claude in Blue Border. What’s different now?

Most desktop apps, Claude included, mostly work inside Blue Border out of the box, so it's not surprising that this has been running smoothly for you. Many customers used Claude in Blue Border before we announced official support. We put a lot of time into testing every scenario and edge case and resolving issues that came up for the Claude desktop app before calling it officially supported. That said, existing users likely won’t experience anything different now that it’s official supported.

I’ve already been using ChatGPT/Codex in Blue Border. What are we missing if those apps aren’t supported yet?

Most desktop apps, ChatGPT included, mostly work inside Blue Border out of the box, so it's not surprising that this has been running smoothly for you. We’re currently putting time into testing every scenario and edge case and resolving issues that come up for the ChatGPT desktop app before calling it officially supported. That said, if ChatGPT is working well for your team now, there's no reason to stop using it, and nothing will change once it's officially supported.
