Fix released to all Windows users
Details
On April 10th, we received several reports from Windows users that the Windows Smart App Control feature was blocking access to Venn’s Workplace app. This issue only impacted a subset of Windows users.
We identified the root cause and released a fix to all Windows users on April 27th.
Root Cause: Smart App Control flagged several files in the Workplace app that lacked digital signatures. This is a known limitation of how Smart App Control evaluates software, where even a single unsigned file—common in auto-generated libraries and third-party components—can trigger a block.
Fix: We addressed this by releasing an updated version of our app with all files properly signed and updating our build process to ensure this is enforced going forward.
Next Steps: Before we resolved the issue, if any of your users were unable to access the Workplace app, we recommended sharing instructions with them to temporarily disable the Windows Smart App Control feature. Now that we have released a fix for this issue, users can turn Smart App Control back on once they're running the latest version of Workplace. Share the instructions below with those users.
How to Turn Smart App Control Back On
Before you turn Smart App Control back on, make sure you are running the latest version of Workplace:
- Click Settings at the bottom left of the Workplace app.
- If you see the Update app button, click to update Workplace.
-
Check to make sure that you're running App version 4.0.9578.13129 at a minimum (this number will appear to the right of the word App). If you aren't yet running that version, you may need to wait an hour or so until the update reaches you. You'll know the Workplace app is ready to update when you see the black update arrow icon to the right of Settings in the left menu of the Workplace app.
Once you have confirmed that you are running Workplace App version 4.0.9578.13129 at a minimum, you can turn Smart App Control back on in your Windows Security App settings:
- Go to the Start menu and search for "Windows Security."
- In the Windows Security app, select App & browser control.
- Click Smart App Control settings.
- Turn On Smart App Control.
If you run into additional issues accessing the Workplace app when you turn Smart App Control back on, please contact Venn’s support team.
