Venn Disk and Accessing Work Files Overview

When you install Venn’s Blue Border™, a virtual, encrypted, local drive is created on your device called Venn Disk. This is where all of the data related to the applications you use in Blue Border will live. Venn Disk is only accessible when you’re logged into Venn.

Work Application Profiles

When you launch an app locally for the first time using Blue Border, Venn creates a unique and separate profile for that application, which is stored on Venn Disk, virtual, encrypted, local drive on your device.

The first time you access an app in Blue Border on a new device, it will be like you are accessing the app for the very first time on that device (even if you've used it on another device or outside of Blue Border on that device previously). The app will open with default settings from the app developer and you may need to sign in and configure the application to meet your needs.

Integrations

Venn has integrations with the popular file systems that your company may use to store files. Your company may assign you access to one or more file systems in Blue Border.

Venn has the following file system integrations available in Blue Border. If you have access to one or more of the file systems below in Blue Border, you will see the associated desktop app in the Launcher. Follow the linked instructions to learn how to set up and use each file system in Blue Border:

When you open a file from one of these cloud storage locations, a local version is stored in cache on Venn Disk for you to work on. Venn syncs any changes you save back to the cloud.

Blue Border does not currently support the Google Drive desktop app on Mac. Learn how to us Google Drive in Blue Border on your Mac.

Workplace Drive

Venn has a proprietary cloud storage solution called Workplace Drive. If your company uses Workplace Drive, you will see workplace_ in File Explorer or Finder when you launch it in Blue Border.

When you open a file from Workplace Drive, a local version is stored in cache on Venn Disk for you to work on. Venn syncs any changes you save back to the cloud.

Other File Systems

If your company uses a cloud-based file storage solution that we don't have an integration available for (e.g., Box, Dropbox, Google Drive for Mac), Venn Disk will be your default file save location in Blue Border.

You can download files from the web portal for your company's file system to Venn Disk to work on them and upload files that they have saved to Venn Disk to your company's file system.

The main V: Drive (Venn Disk) is for temporary storage.

Files saved within your cloud storage system (e.g., OneDrive, Google Drive, or Workplace Drive) folders on Venn Disk are backed up to the cloud and are not subject to data loss.

Files saved directly on the main V: Drive (Venn Disk) are not synced to any cloud storage and may be subject to data loss. Important work files that are saved on the Venn Disk should be backed up in cloud storage.

Venn Disk Storage Space

Venn Disk requires sufficient storage space to store your work application profiles and cached files from your cloud storage solution.

Venn keeps track of how much storage these items require and how much available storage you have on your computer. If your computer has low remaining disk space available, you will receive a warning.

If you don’t have enough available storage, you can optimize how you’re using your storage so that you have enough to use Venn. Try these tips for your Windows or Mac computer.

If you routinely work with large files, you may find that your C: Drive on your Windows device (the default location for Venn Disk) doesn't have adequate space to store these cached files. As a Windows user, you can change the location of the Venn Disk to a larger drive if needed.
