Import Your Browser Settings into Venn

If you have previously used Chrome or Edge on your device, Venn will give you the option to copy over your saved bookmarks, history, and/or preferences when you first launch the same browser in Blue Border. You can then choose which bookmarks to copy over and whether or not to copy over preferences or browsing history.

The browser setup assistant is only available for Windows users the first time they launch their browser in Blue Border on their device. All other users can export bookmarks from an existing browser profile and import them into their browser profile in Venn following these instructions.

Import Your Browser Settings

When you first launch Chrome or Edge, if Venn detects that you have an existing profile on your computer, you will be asked if you would like to import your settings. To import your settings:

  1. If applicable, select the browser profile you would like to copy settings from. Then, click Set up Chrome or Set up Edge.

  2. On the next screen, check the settings you would like to import and click Continue with setup.

    • You can customize exactly which bookmarks you would like to import. Click the arrow to the left of Bookmarks to expand your list of bookmarks and uncheck any bookmarks or bookmark folders you do not want to import.
    • If needed, click View in Full Screen to expand the window.

  3. Venn will import the settings that you selected. It may take several minutes for your settings to load if you are importing many bookmarks or extensive browsing history.
    • The browser you chose to import settings for will not be accessible on your computer during the import process.
  4. You will see a confirmation message when your settings have been imported and your browser is ready to use.

The browser settings that you chose to import will be added to your browser profile in Blue Border and maintained separately from your personal browser profile(s) outside of Blue Border. Your personal browser profile(s) outside of Blue Border will remain unchanged.

Possible Issues

Prompt to Set Up Your Browser Not Appearing

If you don’t see a prompt to copy your browser settings when your launch it in Blue Border for the first time, it could be due to the following reasons:

  • You haven't used the browser on this device before: Venn can import your browser profile settings from Chrome profiles previously set up on your device outside of Blue Border to Chrome inside Blue Border or your browser profile settings from Edge profiles previously set up on your device outside of Blue Border to Edge inside Blue Border. Venn cannot import settings from profiles set up on other devices or across different browser applications (e.g., import from Chrome to Edge). Follow the instructions in this article if you need to copy over bookmarks or passwords from a different device or browser.
  • You did not complete the setup process when prompted: Venn cannot copy over your browser settings after you have started working in your browser. Because this is a one-time-only option, you will see a popup that asks if you are sure before you take an action that will prevent you from importing your settings. If you choose not to import when prompted, you will no longer have the option to import your settings.
  • You are accessing Venn’s Blue Border on a Mac: Automatic browser setup is currently only available for Windows.

Error

If Venn encounters errors as it attempts to import your browser settings, you will see an error message.
