We're adding the ability for Company Managers to configure automated app scripts, giving you a scalable way to enforce setup and maintenance requirements across your whole Windows fleet.
What's New
Company Managers can add one-time or recurring scripts to any Windows app from the new App scripts tab on each app's detail page under Company admin > All apps.
Why should you configure automated app scripts? Company Managers can set up scripts that automate setup and maintenance for any Windows app, so you can get users up and running faster, streamline app management, and smooth the user experience at scale. Here are some examples of how automated app scripts can be used:
Apply a company license to an app like Acrobat or Citrix, so users don't have to enter a key.
Disable an unwanted add-in or default setting in an app, so users have an approved setup.
Close an app outside Blue Border upon login, so users don’t use it outside Blue Border.
Check for and apply updates before app launch, so users are always using the latest version.
Users see two things when you have configured automated app scripts.
-
The first time a script needs to run outside Blue Border on a device, they're asked to consent.
-
While a script is running, users will see a visual indicator in the Blue Border app, with a “Setting up” tooltip on hover. If users click the app while a script is running, they’ll see a popup letting them know that the app is being set up for work.
Get Started
Once released, Company Managers will see the App scripts tab on each app detail page under Company admin > Apps in the Admin Portal.
Availability
App scripts currently run on Windows devices only.
FAQ
What will my users see when a script runs?
The first time a script runs outside Blue Border on a device, users see a one-time consent notification. While any script is running, a "Setting up" indicator appears on the app tile, and clicking it explains that the app is being set up for work.
Do I need to do anything?
No. Nothing changes unless you add app scripts yourself.
Can I use app scripts for Mac apps?
Not yet. App scripts are Windows-only for now.
