If you have previously used Outlook on your computer with your work email on record in Venn, Venn will give you the option to copy over your Outlook settings to use in Blue Border.
Import Your Outlook Settings
If Venn detects that you have previously accessed Outlook for work on your computer, you will be prompted to set up Outlook for that account. To import your settings and start using Outlook in Blue Border:
- Click Set up automatically.
- If you are on a Mac, you will be prompted to set up OneDrive and Outlook at the same time if your organization uses OneDrive for secure cloud file storage and Venn detects that you have previously accessed OneDrive for work on this computer. In that case, click Set up Outlook as well.
- If you choose not to migrate your Outlook settings when initially prompted, you may be given the option to set up Outlook automatically again when you click to open Outlook (or any Microsoft app on Mac) from the Venn Launcher for the first time.
- Venn will migrate your emails, folders, and your Outlook preferences. It may take several minutes for your settings to load if you have a significant amount of data (emails and calendar invitations) stored in Outlook.
- Outlook will not be accessible on your computer during the migration process. If you need to access your email or calendar in the meantime, you can open Outlook online.
- If you are on a Mac, Microsoft apps will not be accessible on your computer during the migration. If you need to access Microsoft apps in the meantime, you can log in online.
- You will see a confirmation message when your Outlook has been set up and is ready to use.
Once the settings have been copied over, follow the steps below to access Outlook for the first time in Blue Border:
- Click Open Outlook in the pop-up that appears.
- Sign in on the Venn login screen using your Venn username and password. You may need to verify your sign-in by completing multifactor authentication on your mobile device.
- Click Sign in to set up Microsoft Office.
- Input your work email address and click Next.
You will now have access to Microsoft Outlook with the settings you had previously configured on the device. See the settings Venn migrates below.
Once the migration is complete, your Outlook settings will be maintained within Blue Border for that email address. You can make any configuration and preference changes as needed, and they will be saved and applied any time you open Outlook in Blue Border.
If you log in to Outlook outside of Blue Border with your work email after the migration is complete, your Outlook settings will not be applied. Your profile will revert to the Microsoft default.
Outlook Settings Venn Migrates
When you complete the steps above, Venn will copy over the following Outlook settings:
- Email signatures
- Views for your folders, including your inbox
- Display settings
- Preferences
- OST files
Potential Issues Copying Outlook Settings
Prompt to Set Up Automatically Not Appearing
If you don’t see a prompt to copy your Outlook settings when accessing Blue Border for the first time, try opening Outlook from the Venn Launcher. In most cases, you will be given the option to migrate your settings a second time.
If you do not see the prompt, it could be due to the following reasons:
- You haven't configured Microsoft Outlook on this device before: Microsoft saves your Outlook app settings on the computer where you set them up. If you are accessing Outlook on a computer for the first time, your Outlook settings will not carry over from another computer.
- Your company has the wrong Microsoft Outlook account on file: Venn checks to see if you have set up Outlook on your computer for the work email that is listed for you in the Venn Company Admin portal. You won't have the option to copy your settings if the email in Company Admin is incorrect or doesn’t match the one you want to use in Blue Border. If you think your email address in Venn is incorrect, contact your support team and ask them to update your email address in Venn.
- You did not complete the setup process when prompted: Venn cannot copy over your Outlook settings after you have started working in Outlook on Windows or any Microsoft application on Mac. Because this is a one-time-only option, you will see a popup that asks if you are sure before you take an action that will prevent you from migrating your settings. If you choose not to migrate when prompted, you will no longer have the option to migrate your settings.
- You are accessing Venn’s Blue Border on a Mac: Automatic Outlook setup is currently only available for Windows.
Not enough space to set up Outlook
In order to import your settings, Venn must copy your Outlook settings and preference files. If your computer does not have enough space to copy those files, you will see an error message.

Outlook set up didn't complete
If Venn encounters errors as it attempts to import your Outlook settings, you will see an error message. You can choose to set up manually or you may have the option to try to set up automatically again.
