System and Software Requirements for Venn's Blue Border

Venn's Blue Border™ can be accessed from a wide range of workstations, laptops, tablets, and phones. In order to make sure that Venn can behave as expected, we require that devices meet the following minimum hardware and software requirements.

System and Software Requirements Summary

Devices must meet the system and software requirements below to run Venn's Blue Border. If you have questions or need more details about any of the specific requirements, including how to find out if your current device meets the requirements and what to do if your device doesn’t meet the requirements, click the links below to jump to more detailed information.

  • Computer Hardware Requirements

    • Processor: Any of the processors below:
      • Windows:
        • Intel Core i5 or higher, 6th generation or newer, Dual-Core or more, 1.7 gigahertz or faster
        • AMD Ryzen 5th generation or newer, Dual-Core or more, 1.5 gigahertz or faster
      • Mac:
        • Apple Silicon Chip M1 or newer
        • Intel Core i5 or higher, 6th generation or newer, Dual-Core or more, 1.7 gigahertz or faster
    • Memory (RAM): At least 8 GB
    • Hard Drive Type: SSD
    • Storage: At least 128 GB capacity and 1 GB available storage
    • Network Bandwidth: Internet speed of at least 512 kilobits per second (kbps)

  • Computer Software Requirements

    • Operating System: Only one of the supported Operating Systems below directly installed:
      • Windows: Windows 10, version 22H2, x64 bit or Windows 11, version 22H2 or 23H2; Windows 11, version 24H2 is not yet supported (will be supported starting October 17, 2024)
      • Mac: macOS Ventura, version 13 or higher or macOS Sonoma, version 14 or higher; macOS 15 Sequoia is not yet supported
    • Web Browsers:
      • Windows: Microsoft Edge (Chromium Based) or Google Chrome
      • Mac: Microsoft Edge (Chromium Based) or Google Chrome
    • Work Applications: 64-bit preferred, most 32-bit apps supported on Windows

Computer Hardware Requirements

Processor

Computers must have one of the supported processors below to run Venn's Blue Border.

Please Note: ARM Processors are not supported.

What if my computer doesn’t have a supported processor? In most cases, it will make the most sense to run Venn on a different device with a supported processor.

 

Memory (RAM)

Computers must meet the minimum memory (RAM) requirements below to run Venn's Blue Border.

  Windows Mac
Required Memory/RAM 8 GB or more

What if my computer doesn’t have enough Memory/RAM? In most cases, it will make the most sense to run Venn on a different device with sufficient RAM.

 

Hard Drive Type

Computers must have the hard drive type below to run Venn's Blue Border.

  Windows Mac
Required Type of Hard Drive Solid State Hard Drive (SSD), not Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

What if my computer doesn’t have a SSD? In most cases, it will make the most sense to run Venn on a different device with a SSD.

 

Storage

Computers must meet the minimum storage requirements below to run Venn's Blue Border.

  Windows Mac
Required Storage  - At least 128GB of capacity
 - At least 1GB of available storage (in order to install Venn)

Local Disk (C:) - 476 GB

What if my computer doesn’t have sufficient storage? If your Hard Drive doesn’t have sufficient storage capacity, it will make the most sense to run Venn on a different device with sufficient storage capacity in most cases.

If you don’t have enough available storage, you can optimize how you’re using your storage so that you have enough to install Venn. Try these tips for your Windows or Mac computer.

 

Network Bandwidth

Computers must meet the minimum network bandwidth/internet speed requirements below to run Venn's Blue Border.

Required Network Bandwidth/ Internet Speed Internet speed of 512 kilobits per second (kbps) or more
How much bandwidth does my internet connection have? Search for and run an internet speed test in your browser. The download rate is considered your internet bandwidth or speed.

Please Note: Internet speed test results will often be in megabits per second (mbps). 512 kbps = 0.512 mbps, so if your download speed is greater than 1 mbps, you have sufficient bandwidth.
What if my computer doesn’t have sufficient bandwidth? First, check to see what speeds your current internet plan should provide. If lower than the required bandwidth for Venn, upgrade to a higher-speed internet plan.

If your current internet plan should provide sufficient speeds, you can try to optimize how you’re connecting to the internet or reach out to your Internet Service Provider for support. The following may help:
 - Disable background applications and processes that might be using bandwidth on your computer
 - Reduce the number of devices connected to your wifi network
 - Upgrade your modem or router
 - Use a wired or ethernet connection

Computer Software Requirements

Operating System

Computers must have one of the supported Operating Systems below directly installed (and only one OS running) to run Venn's Blue Border.

Not Supported
Any virtualized Operating System (ex: VMWare, Parallels, VirtualBox, Remote Desktop (RDP)).
Systems configured to boot multiple Operating Systems such as:
- An Apple computer with Bootcamp running Windows
- An Apple computer with multiple volumes of macOS
- A PC with multiple versions of windows
  Windows Mac
Supported Operating Systems  - Windows 10, version 22H2, x64 bit
 - Windows 11, version 22H2 or 23H2		  - macOS Ventura, version 13 or higher
 - macOS Sonoma, version 14 or higher
Please Note: The following Operating Systems are not supported:
 - Older Windows OS, such as Windows 7 or 8
 - Windows 10 x86/32 bit
 - Chromebooks / Chrome OS
 - Linux
 - Windows 11, version 24H2 (Venn will support this new version starting October 17, 2024) 		Please Note: The following Operating Systems are not supported:
 - Older macOS, such as Monterey, Big Sur 11, or Catalina
 - macOS Sequoia (Venn is in the process of testing this new version and will announce once macOS 15 Sequoia is supported for use with Venn)

What if my computer doesn’t have a supported Operating System? If your Windows 10 or 11 is not on the newest version, follow these steps to get the latest update.

If you are using Linux, follow these steps to switch to Windows.

Review Google recommendations if using ChromeOS Flex.

Review Microsoft recommendations for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.		 If you are using Ventura or Sonoma, but you are not on the newest version, follow these steps to get the latest update.

If you are using an older Operating System, follow these steps to upgrade.

 

Web Browsers

Computers must have one of the supported web browsers below installed to run Venn's Blue Border. These are the only web browsers supported in Blue Border.

  Windows Mac

 - Google Chrome		  - Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)
 - Google Chrome

What if my computer doesn’t have a supported browser? Download and install Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Download and install Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

 

Work Applications

64-bit applications work best within Blue Border, but most 32-bit applications are supported for Windows.

  • Windows: 32-bit applications may experience performance issues in Venn. If an application has a 64-bit version available, we recommend using that version instead of the 32-bit version in Venn. However, if the application that you need to use is not available in 64-bit, you can use the 32-bit version.
  • Mac: 32-bit applications are not compatible with Venn’s supported macOS, so you would not be able to open them on a Mac device that meets requirements to use Blue Border.

The Microsoft Office 32-bit architecture is not compatible with Venn. In order to use Microsoft Office apps with Venn, you must uninstall the 32-bit version and install the 64-bit version. Learn how to reinstall apps to access using Venn.

If you have the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office apps installed, you will fail the ReadyBlue Software Compatibility Check.

Mobile Device Requirements

Mobile Device

Mobile devices must meet the following specifications to run Venn:

  • Android: Any device running Android 10 or higher
  • Apple: Any device running iOS 15 or higher
