We're removing the Recent files tab from the Launcher in the Workplace desktop app on Windows and Mac as part of our ongoing work to streamline and modernize the app.
What's New
The Recent files tab (also called Most Recent Files) appears on the Launcher for users with Workplace Drive enabled. We're removing it because it offers functionality that's already available elsewhere in the app.
Your users can still access recent Workplace Drive files in two ways:
- Recently synced: Click Recently synced in the left navigation menu of the Workplace desktop app to see files recently saved in Workplace Drive.
- Inside their apps: Many apps, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, show a list of recently opened files when they launch.
Get Started
Starting November 4, the Recent files tab will no longer appear on the Launcher. Before then, we recommend letting your users know about the change and sharing the alternatives above so they're ready.
Availability
This change applies to users with Workplace Drive enabled on Windows and Mac.
FAQ
Does this change affect users who don't have Workplace Drive enabled?
No. The Recent files tab only appears for users with Workplace Drive enabled.
Why are you removing the Recent files tab?
We're streamlining and modernizing the Workplace app based on customer feedback. Users can already find recent files through Recently synced and their apps' own recent file lists, so this tab was redundant.
